Women’s Basketball Defeats Wentworth in CCC Opener

BOSTON, Mass. - Curry College Women's Basketball defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Wentworth by a final score of 64-41 on the road Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Colonels improve to 5-2 overall this season and 1-0 in the CCC.

The Colonels dominated the hosting Leopards in the opening quarter of the conference matchup, outscoring Wentworth 23-12. Curry's Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) and Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) combined for 19 points in the first quarter. 

Curry College carried its momentum into the second quarter, with Kathryn Dunn notching another shot from the field to begin scoring in the second period of play. Three-pointers from Curry's Nicole Moran (Framingham, Mass.) and Kylie McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) pushed the Colonels to a 35-18 lead with five minutes remaining in the half. A shot from beyond the arc by the hosts in the closing moments sent the two conference sides into halftime with Curry up 41-22.

The Colonels held back the hosting Leopards from closing in on their lead, holding Wentworth to just 11 points in the third quarter. The final quarter saw two evenly matched sides, each team marking eight points in the final ten minutes of play. Curry would take the win on the road by a final score of 64-41.

The Colonels were led by senior forward Kathryn Dunn (19 points, 7 rebounds), Lauren Dunn (16 points, 5 assists), and Kaitlynn Smith (10 points, 7 rebounds).

Curry returns to the court Saturday as they continue CCC action with a road matchup against Roger Williams at 1 PM.
