Colonels Halted by Fighting Scots

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Basketball team was defeated by conference opponent Gordon College Saturday evening by a score of 76-35.
With the loss, the Colonels fall to 3-16 overall this season and 0-12 in the CCC. With the win on the road, Gordon improves to 6-12 overall on their season.
The Colonels grabbed an early lead, producing a 6-2 run through the opening four minutes. A pair of threes from Curry's Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) and Lily Gray (Brooksville, Maine) put their side on top early. Gordon quickly answered back, closing the opening quarter with a 19-6 point run. Entering the second quarter up 21-12, the Fighting Scots continued their dominant play. Led by Ami Rivera, Madison Wynbeek, and Michaela Kelly in the second quarter, Gordon would cushion their lead to 23 points. The two sides would head into halftime with the visitors ahead, 43-20.
The Fighting Scots knocked down a quick jumper to start the third quarter, prompting a timeout by Curry. The lead from the visitors would expand to 30 with under five minutes remaining in the third quarter. The visitors would hold Curry to just 16.7% (3-18) from the field in the final quarter while only knocking down only two more shots themselves. Ami Rivera propelled the Fighting Scots to a victory, tallying seven points in the fourth quarter alone. Gordon College would take the contest with the final score 76-35 at Katz Gymnasium.
Gordon College was led by Ami Rivera (17 pts, 7 reb, 4 stl) and Madison Wynbeek (14 pts, 6 reb).
The Colonels were led by Lily Gray (14 pts, 4 reb), Kaitlynn Smith (7 pts), and Kristyanna Remillard (7 pts, 3 stl).
Curry College gets back out on the court Tuesday as they hit the road to face Endicott College at 7:30 PM.
