MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's basketball team defeated Western Connecticut State University in overtime Saturday afternoon at Katz Gymnasium, claiming the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament Trophy. The contest was decided 61-58 after a five-minute overtime period.

With the win, the Colonels improve to 2-2 on the season.

The game was close for the majority of play. Late in the third quarter showed the largest lead attained by WestConn, leading 40-33.

Curry rallied through the fourth quarter and found a four-point lead with less than a minute remaining in regulation.

WestConn's Jasmine Caldwell knocked down a pair of free throws to knot the count at 50-50, with 21 seconds remaining in the game. Colonels forward Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) tries her luck on a three-pointer at the buzzer to no avail. With the score locked at 50 apiece, the contest would head to an overtime period of five minutes.

Freshman Emerson Cherry (Sturbridge, Mass.) propelled Curry into control of the game. The guard sank a deep three late in overtime putting the Colonels up 59-56. Cherry would be sent to the line and knock down one of two, Curry now leading 60-56 with just over 30 seconds remaining. WestConn guard Jasmine Caldwell brought her team within two points, dropping a jump shot with 18 seconds left, now down 60-58. Curry's Emerson would be sent to the line, again hitting 1-2 putting the Colonels up 61-58 where the score would stand. WestConn's Nicole Vivian gave one more try at the buzzer, but her shot from center court fell short, granting Curry the victory.

Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) paced the Colonels with 20 points paired with 12 boards, while forward Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) put up 18 points in the win.

The Colonels take to the court on Wednesday, November 17 to face Wheaton. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 PM at Katz Gymnasium.
