Women's Basketball Topped By Roger Williams in CCC Play, 66-48

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team beat Curry College 66-48 Saturday afternoon for their 12th straight win, a new single-season record for the Hawks.

The 12 straight wins improves of the previous mark of 11 consecutive victories set by last year's team.

Anna Walther (Northampton, Mass.) led RWU with 18 points on 7-of-14 from the field and Gabby Jerahian (Quincy, Mass.) chipped in 10 points. The Hawks bench was also a major factor in the contest as Sam Leone (Ashland, Mass.) put up of a double-double of ten points and ten boards. Sam Mancinelli (Peabody, Mass.) also put up ten points to round out RWU's double-digit scorers.

Curry was led by Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) with 16 points. Gina Coote (Dedham, Mass.) added seven points and eight rebounds, and Maeve Foley (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored nine.

The game started with the Colonels leading the game 2-0 with a shot made by Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) followed by the Hawks getting a point on a Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) free throw. Walther later scored a three-pointer making the score 4-2 for the Hawks' first lead of the day. The Hawks increased the lead to double digits on a 3-pointer by Jerahian, making the RWU lead 16-5 with 2:29 to go in the quarter. Curry closed the quarter on a 10-7 run in the last two minutes, however, bringing the deficit down to eight, 23-15.

Early on in the second quarter, Walther made a shot making the lead double digits once again (25-15). The ten-point lead became consistent as Jerahian scored for the Hawks making it 27-17. RWU was able to increase the lead even further with the quarter ending 37-23.

It took a couple minutes into the third, but Walther scored yet again for Roger Williams. Curry's Coote and Sam Bamford (Easton, Mass.) tried to help the Colonels catch up, combining for 12 points in the quarter. Yet he quarter ended with Stephanie Bramante (Stoneham, Mass.) scoring two points with 10 seconds left to play, putting RWU on top 51-41 at the end of the third.

Shortly into the final quarter, Leone scored for the Hawks, bringing the lead to 54-39. With 6:52 left to play, the Hawks led by 20 points, making it a 59-39 game. Irwin may have made the last basket, but it was the Hawks who won the game with a final score of 66-48.

Roger Williams (20-3, 14-2 CCC) will take on Gordon College Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. while the Colonels (11-12, 7-9 CCC) travel to the University of New England on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
