Women's Basketball Holds Off Visiting Endicott, 46-42, in CCC Action

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College outlasted visiting Endicott College, 46-42, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels improved to 14-9 overall and 11-5 in league play, while the Gulls fell to 10-12 on the season and 6-9 in CCC action.

Endicott claimed its largest first half lead (21-14) after junior Kelsey Cuddy (Madison, Conn.) converted a layup with 3:05 remaining. Curry answered with nine straight points, capped off with a completed three-point play by senior Jeanette Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) with 1:15 on the clock. The Gulls went on to score the final five points of the opening frame, heading into intermission with a 26-23 edge.

The Colonels used a 10-0 run midway through the second half to claim their biggest lead of the game (36-31) after freshman Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) made a layup with 8:13 remaining in the game. Endicott tied the game at four different times in the final eight minutes of the game, but Curry would never relinquish its lead. The final tie (42-42) came at 1:55, when Cuddy converted a layup. On the following possession, Fallon scored a layup and then would take a charge on the defensive end with 1:02 on the clock. The Gulls then fouled senior Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.), who iced the game with two made shots from the charity stripe, accounting for the 46-42 final.

Beltz led the Colonels with a team-best 13 points, while also pulling down six boards. Fallon added eight points, while senior Samantha Corcoran (Hampton, N.H.) scored seven and recorded a game-high nine rebounds.

Junior Nicole Catizone (Woburn, Mass.) led all scorers with 16 points, including three shots from beyond the arc. Cuddy chipped in with 12 points and five steals. Catizone and Cuddy also recorded four rebounds apiece.

Both teams return to CCC action on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., as Curry heads to the University of New England, while Endicott travels to Wentworth.
