BRISTOL, R.I. – The Curry College Women’s Basketball team dropped a 72-54 decision at Roger Williams Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action. The win moves the Hawks to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The Colonels (6-5) drop their third-straight contest overall and fall to 2-2 in the CCC.

Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) notched her third double-double of the season for Roger Williams, going for 15 points with 11 rebounds. Alexandria Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) added five points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Elizabeth Kilzi (Waverly, Pa.) led all scorers with 16 points, while Ari Renwick (Westwood, Mass.) added 13 points off the bench.

Samantha Corcoran (Hampton, N.H.) also went for a double-double, finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Mass.) almost had a double-double herself, going for 13 points and nine boards. Jeanette Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) added a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds.

Fallon began the game with a layup for Curry before Bovee knocked down a trey for the Hawks. With the score tied at five, a pair of Kilzi free throws gave the Hawks a lead that they would not give up over the course of the contest. Curry kept the game close over most of the first half, but the Hawks used an 8-1 run to take a double-digit lead, making a 16-13 game into a 24-14 lead with 6:52 left in the half. RWU would ultimately go into the break up 34-23.

Curry made a push early on in the second half, jumping out of the break on a 13-6 run, capped off by a three-point play by Beltz. The free throw would pull the Colonels within four (36-40) with 12:29 to play. However, the Hawks stormed out on a 12-1 run to go on top by 16 and put the game out of Curry’s reach. The Colonels never came closer than 14 as the Hawks held on for the win.

Curry hosts the University of New England on Thursday, while Roger Williams travels to Gordon on the same day. (Game recap courtesy of RWU Sports Information)
