Women's Basketball Handed Season-Opening 79-59 Loss By Visiting Suffolk
MILTON, Mass. – Sophomore Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) scored a game high 23 points, leading visiting Suffolk to a 79-59 win over Curry in non-conference women’s basketball action Tuesday night in Milton.

In the season opener for both school, the Rams cruised to a 41-18 first half lead, thanks to 60% shooting from the field. Suffolk held the Colonels to just 26.7% shooting over the opening 20 minutes. Both teams shot identical 54.2% field-goal percentages in the second half, with the hosts outscoring Suffolk, 41-38.

Ruys was one of four Rams in double figures. Senior Mary Garon (Auburn, N.H.) had 15 points, while senior Meghan Black (Roslindale, Mass.) and junior Lindsey Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.) had 11 and 10 points, respectively. Garon led Suffolk on the boards with five rebounds.

Curry was led by junior Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, Mass.) with a team best 18 points, and classmate Julia Scrubb (Stowe, Vt.), who contributed 16. Rafferty was game-high rebounder with six boards.

The Colonels resume play on Friday, hosting Fitchburg State at 7:30 p.m. in the opening round of the Curry Tip-Off Tournament. Suffolk travels to Western New England on Saturday, playing Mount Holyoke at 6:00 p.m. in the opening round of the WNE Tip-Off Tournament.
