WBB Falls to TCCC Rival Salve Regina, 64-53
MILTON, Mass. – Visiting Salve Regina outscored Curry 37-22 in the second half, en route to a 64-53 come-from-behind win in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action Tuesday night in Milton. The Seahawks improve to 13-8 overall and 8-2 in TCCC play while the Colonels fall to 9-13 overall and 4-6 in TCCC play.

The two teams traded leads in what was a closely-contested first half. Salve took its biggest lead of the opening frame at 11:07 after sophomore guard Kira Murphy (New Boston, NH) sank a three-pointer to put her team up by three (14-11). The Colonels largest advantage (30-21) came with two minutes left before intermission after junior guard Joneiha Veiga (Brockton, MA) connected from beyond the arc. The Seahawks battled back and pulled within four (31-27) heading into the locker room.

Salve completed its comeback and took the lead for good when junior forward Erin Phillips (Morristown, NJ) hit a three-pointer with 16:33 remaining in regulation that put her team up by one (36-35). Curry pulled within one (51-50) with 6:13 remaining after freshman forward Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, MA) made a layup. In response, the Seahawks put the game away by going on a 13-3 run.

Salve Regina was led by junior forward Meghan Averill (Newfields, NH), who had a game-high 16 points. Freshman guard Kaitlin Birrell (Hope, RI) and Philips each contributed 12, and sophomore center Lindsay Shorey (Ashland, MA) added 10. Junior forward Olivia Browning (Trumbull, CT) led the Seahawks on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Rafferty posted a double-double for the Colonels with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, February 13 for 1 p.m. contests. The Seahawks visit Endicott while the Colonels travel to Wentworth.
