WBB Picks Up 73-62 Non-Conference Win Over Fitchburg State
MILTON, Mass. – Four players reached double figures in scoring as Curry College defeated Fitchburg State, 73-62, in non-conference women’s basketball action Monday night in Milton. Curry improved its record to 5-6, while Fitchburg State fell to 6-6.

The visitors took an early 5-0 lead, but the hosts went ahead (7-5) at 17:11 on a pair of free throws by freshman guard Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, MA). The Falcons re-took the lead with 7:01 to go on a jumper by junior guard Kelley Rogers (Lowell, MA). Curry responded at 4:05 with a jumper by junior guard Joneiha Veiga (Brockton, MA) that gave the Colonels a lead that they would never relinquish. Curry held a 39-33 advantage at the half.

The Colonels maintained a lead for the entire second frame. The Falcons pulled within three with 12:45 to go after a three-pointer by junior guard Kim Duprey (Bernardston, MA). Curry’s largest lead of the game (62-50) came with 7:11 remaining after a Rafferty layup.

Freshman guard Julia Scrubb (Stowe, VT) and Veiga each scored 17 points to lead the Colonels. Senior captain Liz Forte (Rutland, VT) and Rafferty also scored in double digits with 12 points apiece. Rafferty led Curry with six rebounds.

Junior guard Molly Maloney (Taunton, MA) led the Falcons in scoring with 16 points. Junior forward Melissa Proffitt (Hubbardston, MA) was the only other player for the Falcons in double figures with 13. Proffitt fell one rebound short of a double-double, but led her team with a game-high nine rebounds.

Curry resumes action on January 12 at the University of New England at 6:00 p.m. Fitchburg next plays at home against Eastern Nazarene on January 14 at 7:00 p.m.
