Milton, MA - The Curry Softball team split their DH against UNE on Friday, winning game one 4-1, and falling in extra innings 7-5 in game two. The Colonels are now 15-19 on the season, and 7-9 in CNE play. The Nor'easters are now 10-24 and 2-14.
Game One
Jillian Rogers started out hot in the circle for the Colonels, striking out seven batters in a row early on. The Nor'easters would take a lead in the third, breaking up that streak, with a home run. Through three innings Rogers had eight strikeouts. The Colonels would respond to that with a home run of their own, a two run shot by Ana Tsonis, the first of her career. Curry would then add two more in the fourth, highlighted by a Mary Rodrigues RBI bunt single. Rogers continued to dominate pitching, ending up with 13 strikeouts in seven innings, allowing just one run and three hits.
Game Two
The Colonels struck first in game two, scoring a run on a Mary Rodrigues RBI single up the middle in the second. After the Nor'easters scored three in the fourth, the Colonels answered with three in the fifth. Those came courtesy of an error, and RBI singles from Natalia O'Kleasky and Skylar Colburn. That put the Colonels up 4-3, but UNE tied things up in the sixth. The Colonels would have runners on second and third with one out in the sixth, but each of the next two batters popped out to the shortstop. The game would head to extra innings, and the Nor'easters put three runs across in the top half of the inning. The Colonels would get the tying run to the plate, but would fall 7-5.
Despite being handed the loss, Rogers continued to pitch well in game two, pitching 2.1 innings of relief, striking out five batters.
Up Next - The Colonels will travel to Mass. Maritime on Wednesday.
