Colonels Swept by Cardinals in Afternoon Doubleheader

MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Curry College Softball team was swept by non-conference opponent Wesleyan University (Conn.) Saturday afternoon on the road. 

With the losses, Curry falls to 4-9.

 

Game 1 - Curry 0, Wesleyan 7

The hosting Cardinals took a six-run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Wesleyan's Krissy Gately and Alexis Campbell each marked an RBI double. A final run batted in by Kendall Mancuso in the bottom of the sixth inning sealed the victory for the hosts.

The Cardinals would hold the Colonels to just three hits with no runs through the seventh inning, taking the contest by a final score of 7-0.

 

Game 2 - Curry 4, Wesleyan 12

The Colonels put their first two runs on the board in the top of the second inning, tying the game at one apiece after an error from the Cardinals' second baseman. Curry took a two-run lead with a Camryn Willis two-RBI double, batting in Jordan Ferullo (Burlington, Mass.) and Karlie Pontes (Dartmouth, Mass.).

The Cardinals regained the lead with three more runs in the bottom of the second. 

Curry's Camryn Willis marked her third RBI of the game, batting in Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, Mass.) with an RBI single to center field to tie the contest back up in the top of the third. 

Eight unanswered runs from the hosting Cardinals through the fifth inning would seal the contest and the sweep in the afternoon doubleheader. 

 

Curry gets back out on the field after a quick turnaround as they face Albertus Magnus on the road Sunday (3/27) at 12 & 2 PM.
