Colonels Drop Doubleheader to Macalester, North Central

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Curry College Softball Team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader against Macalester College and North Central (Ill.) Thursday evening.

With the losses, Curry falls to 1-5.

 

Game 1 - Curry 2, Macalester 3

Macalester College put runs on the board first in the bottom of the first, Renee Nicholson scoring on a passed ball. A second run came in the bottom of the second, Macalester's Sophie Futchko scoring on a Jessica Katzin bunt. 

Curry freshman outfielder Natalia Okleasky (Coventry, R.I.) put the Colonels on the board in the top of the third, scoring on an error my Macalester's third baseman. 

The Colonels tied the contest in the top of the fifth, Maddy Burns (Salem, N.H.) scoring on a Sienna Kulpa (Taunton, Mass.) sacrifice fly to center-field. 

Macalester took the contest in the bottom of the sixth, Emily Bergin scoring from third on a wild pitch from Curry's Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, Mass.). The Colonels would not tally another run in the top of the seventh, falling to Macalester 3-2.

 

Game 2 - Curry 0, North Central (Ill.) 1

The evening matchup saw no score through five innings. In the top of the fifth inning, the North Central Cardinals were unable to score despite having the bases loaded and no outs. Colonels pitcher Caitlyn Wood (Saugus, Mass.) struck out the final batter of the inning to keep Curry safe from any Cardinal runs.

North Central tallied a run in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly to center, batting in Katie Del Re to put the Cardinals up 1-0.

The defensive bout saw neither side tally another run through the seventh inning. The North Central Cardinals would take the contest with a final score of 1-0. 

Curry's Caitlyn Wood recorded seven innings pitched with just six hits and no earned runs in the loss. 

 

The Colonels get back out on the field Saturday as they face Simpson and Union in doubleheader action at 10:15 AM & 12:30 PM.
