Salve Regina Takes Two From Softball in CCC Twinbill

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College softball team dropped a pair of games to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Salve Regina University on Wednesday afternoon, falling by final scores of 7-1 and 9-1 at D. Forbes Will Field.

Game One – Salve Regina 7, Curry 1

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Curry scored one in the third to pull even. Freshman Madelyn White (Franklin, Mass.) drove in the lone run for the Colonels with a double to left center.

The Seahawks responded with three runs in the home half of the third to regain control. Salve Regina added three more in the fourth as they would take the contest in the 7-1 final. Seniors Taylor Newcomb (Millville, Mass.) and Jordan Perzan (Burlington, Conn.) along with White led the Colonels with two hits apiece.   

Curry freshman starter Taylor McDermott (Durham, Conn.) took the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits over 2.0 innings.

Game Two – Salve Regina 9, Curry 1 (5 innings)

Curry got on the board in the third inning when McDermott singled through the left side to plate Perzan.  

In the fifth, Salve Regina scored nine runs on seven hits, including five home runs.

Newcomb got the starting nod and surrendered four runs (all earned) on three hits.

White paced the Colonels with two hits in the nightcap.

Curry (2-4 overall, 2-2 CCC) returns to action at home against Roger Williams University on Friday, April 2 at 2:30 p.m. Salve Regina (2-2 overall, 2-2 CCC) returns home to host Western New England University in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m.
