Softball Sweeps Wentworth on Senior Day

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College softball team took two games via shutout on Saturday afternoon, topping Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology on Senior Day. The Colonels captured game one by a 3-0 final and then took game two 12-0 in five innings. With the victories, Bruce Weckworth achieved his 500th career head coaching win.

Curry is now 12-20 overall and 7-11 in the CCC while Wentworth slips to 9-22 overall and 1-13 in league play. The program honored its five seniors in a special postgame ceremony: Kevi Oatway (East Hartford, Conn.), Rebecca Black (East Greenwich, R.I.), Carolyn Lynch (Ipswich, Mass.), Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.), and Jessica Saluti (Braintree, Mass.).

Game One – Curry 3, Wentworth 0

The Colonels got on the board in the bottom of the fourth after Michaela Colleran (East Bridgewater, Mass.) flew out to right, which was deep enough to score Oatway to give Curry the 1-0 lead.

The next runs came in the sixth as Kiana Lloyd (Worcester, Mass.) connected on a two-RBI double to center to plate Colleran and Jordan Perzan (Burlington, Conn.) to give the Colonels the 3-0 advantage, which proved to be the final score.

Lambert, Perzan, and Lloyd paced Curry with two hits each. Talia Forte (North Scituate, R.I.) picked up the final hit for the home squad.

Kayla DeMedeiros (Dartmouth, Mass.), Caroline Shea (Abington, Mass.), and Brionna Myers (Seabrook, N.H.) each had a hit to close the column for the Leopards.

Lambert recorded the win in the circle for the Colonels. She went the distance while only allowing three hits. She walked one and fanned seven for her sixth win of the year.

DeMedeiros was tabbed with the loss, surrendering three runs on nine hits. Additionally, she struck out three and walked none.

Game Two – Curry 12, Wentworth 0 (5 innings)

The bats for the Colonels came alive in the nightcap, registering 11 runs on nine hits in the five inning 11-0 shutout. Black limited Wentworth to one total hit in the contest.

Curry's offense exploded for eight runs in the first frame on four hits. Oatway opened the inning by drawing a bases-loaded walk to score Jocelyn Dimond (Weare, N.H.). Perzan then stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and crushed a grand slam to center. Lloyd followed with a two-RBI double to double to center and Dimond closed the inning with a single to center to left to plate Lloyd.

The Colonels put up two more in the third inning. Lambert reached on a fielder's choice, which scored Dimond and then Perzan singled to second base to plate Oatway and Lambert.

Dimond and Perzan led the way for Curry with two hits apiece.

Shea tallied the lone Leopard hit.

Black picked up the victory, tossing a complete game one-hitter. She struck out two and walked none for her sixth win of the season. Myers was credited with the loss, giving up seven runs on nine hits. She struck out two and walked none in the setback.

Curry closes out the regular season on Monday with a non-conference doubleheader at home against Mass.-Maritime starting at 3:30 p.m. Wentworth hosts Nichols on Sunday at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
