Milton, Mass. – The Curry College softball team suffered a sweep to visiting Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Endicott College 11-4 and 6-0 Tuesday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels drop to 11-17 on the season and 2-10 in the conference while the Gulls improve to 15-12 overall and 8-4 in the CCC.

Game One

After giving up the lead in the top of the first, Curry responded by getting a pair back in one swing of the bat from sophomore Rachel Byrd (Hampstead, N.H.). With runners already in scoring position, Byrd drove one back to the pitcher senior Courtney Blake (East Islip, N.Y.) who overthrew first base, scoring sophomore classmates April Adams (Burlington, Mass.) and  Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) who singled and doubled respectively to start things.

The Gulls tied the game up in their second inning and Adams contributed once again to regain the lead. This time she delivered a single to score sophomore Morgan Haaland (Fairhaven, Mass.) and brought senior Amy Nolan (Norfolk, Mass.) to the plate but the throw from the outfielder caught her before she tagged home; putting the score at 2 apiece after two full.

The Colonels wouldn't get another run across until the bottom of the sixth when they were down 8-3 thanks to a Grand Slam in the visiting half from freshman Hayley Arduini (Southington, Conn.). With two runners on, Haaland drove a ball to the first baseman who mishandled it allowing freshman Talia Forte (North Scituate, R.I.) to take an extra base and score a run. However, that would be the last run they got and Endicott tacked on three more before the 11-4 score went final.

Sophomore Jordan Lizotte (Rehoboth, Mass.) was handed the loss finishing five full innings allowing six runs (only four earned) on nine hits while striking out a Gull. Lambert finished the final two frames yielding five runs, four of them earned, on three hits.

Game Two

The Colonels were blanked in the second game, registering only two hits from Adams and sophomore Carolyn Lynch (Ipswich, Mass.). Classmate Rebecca Black (East Greenwich, R.I.) received the loss dropping her record to 1-6 after finishing the game allowing all six runs, four of which were earned, on 13 hits.

Curry returns to action Wednesday as they host Wentworth Institute of Technology for a 3:30 conference double header while Endicott hosts Tufts for a 3 p.m. non-conference double header on Wednesday as well.
