Current Players Defeat Former Players in 16th Annual Alumni Softball Game

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Softball Program held its 16th Alumni Game on Sunday, September 28. There were 23 softball alumni who returned to the diamond ready for action. A pre-game ceremony featured the recognition of several players and the academic awards they earned last season. Head Coach Bruce Weckworth was then thrilled to have three game balls thrown out to start the game by Lauren Dunn (Team IMPACT), Mia Belmonte (daughter of Michelle Maiocca Belmonte '98 and Kelly Londergan (daughter of Liz Londergan'00).

The alumni squad banged out six hits, including a run-scoring double by Christina Sancinito '09. In the third inning, there were singles by Maria Sancinito '06 and Colleen Smith '06 that produced another run.  The solid pitching staff of senior captain Taylor Ahearn '15, McKenna Barlow '17, Becca Black '18, Jordan Lizotte '18 and Mikayla Lambert '18 kept the rest of their bats in check. The current team had 13 hits and took advantage of a two-run first inning to come away with a 7-3 victory.  Kelly Duggan '17 led the offense with two hits while Marissa Bruno '17 wowed the crowd with a booming home run to spark that two-run first inning. Janelle Mayo'11 returned to the mound for the alumni and delivered a strong pitching effort. The umpire duties for the day were handled by Kate Fallon '05 and her dad Ken Fallon.

It was a reunion of former Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Star players and members of the Curry College Athletic Hall of Fame. Michelle Maiocca Belmonte '98, Leanne Tarkanian '00, Nicole Leckie Breton '01 and Lisa Bello '04 along with many other great players, enjoyed the day of softball. There were many other great players present and they enjoyed a great day of softball. It certainly was an exciting game with plenty of laughs as well. A post-game pizza picnic for about 150 people was held at the field to wrap up the day.

The Curry College Softball Program would like to thank all the players who made it back for this great day of softball and would like to invite you to attend some of our games in the spring. Perhaps one more Spring Break Trip to Ft. Myers, Florida would do the trick. If you were unable to make it to the Alumni Game this year, plan on joining us next year. It's a really good time!
