2014 Softball All-CCC Team Released; Bruno Named as Conference Rookie of the Year

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Student-athletes from eight different institutions in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) were represented on the 2014 All-CCC Softball Team. In addition to the all-conference team, winners of five major individual awards and the team sportsmanship award were also selected. Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among CCC head softball coaches. 

Curry College freshman Marissa Bruno was named as CCC Rookie of the Year. Bruno, an infielder/outfielder from Milford, Conn., stands out among CCC rookies as she ranks among the league leaders in several offensive categories. She topped the league in home runs with nine, while being ranked second in RBI (35), third in slugging percentage (.728), and tied for third in hits with 46. Bruno holds a .404 batting average (ninth), a .435 on-base percentage (14th), and has scored 23 runs (tied for 12th), while earning a CCC Rookie of the week honor once this season. Nationally, the rookie ranks among all NCAA DIII athletes in home runs (32nd) and home runs per game (59th). Curry enters the CCC Tournament as the No. 3 seed after earning a 12-6 CCC record (23-15 overall).

Joining Bruno on the All-CCC First Team was senior third baseman Kaitlyn Maderios. Senior shortstop Megan Flaherty and junior pitcher Taylor Ahearn earned Second Team All-Conference honors. Honorable mention selections included junior catcher Allie Carver, and senior infielders Heather Carrier and Paige Smigiel.
