Softball Takes a Pair of CCC Games from Visiting Eastern Nazarene

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College took both games in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader against Eastern Nazarene Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels took the opener, 6-0, while also claiming game two in five innings, 9-1. Curry improves to 8-6 on the season (2-2 CCC), while the Lions now stand at 4-14 (2-4 CCC).

GAME ONE

In Game One, both teams remained scoreless throughout the first two innings. The Colonels plated three runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a two RBI single to left off the bat of sophomore Ariel LaRosa (Saugus, Mass.). After the third inning, both teams remained hitless and scoreless over the next two innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, Curry scored three more runs. The first run scored on a ground out, while junior Kaitlyn Maderios (East Bridgewater, Mass.) brought home the other two runs with a single to center. Junior Jennifer Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) held Eastern Nazarene hitless in the top of the seventh to complete the shutout.

Lundstrom improved to 3-3 on the season. In seven innings pitched, she recorded 11 strikeouts while allowing one hit. Sophomore Kori Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) absorbed the loss, falling to 3-5. She surrendered six hits and three earned runs while striking out seven in her six innings of work.

GAME TWO

In Game Two, the Colonels struck early with six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Heather Carrier (Scarborough, Maine) recorded the highlight of the inning with a two RBI single to right field. Curry added three more runs in the following inning to take an early 9-0 lead.

The Lions held the Colonels scoreless through the remainder of the game, but were only able to score one run. The run came in the third frame after Sorensen hit a single to center to bring home junior Sam Losano (Elverta, Calif.).

Sophomore Taylor Ahearn (Salem, Mass.) went the distance and picked up the win (4-2), allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out six. Freshman Britny Costa (New Bedford, Mass.) took the loss (1-2), allowing 13 hits and two earned runs in four innings of work.

Curry returns to action on Tuesday, visiting Johnson & Wales in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Eastern Nazarene travels to Wheelock on Monday for its own non-conference doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
