Men’s Tennis Faces Defeat as Spring Break Comes to a Close

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Curry College men's tennis team fell to Illinois Wesleyan by a score of 7-2 on Thursday morning. The match was each team's final contest of their respective Spring Break trips to Orlando, Fla. Following the match, the Titans improve to 9-4-2 on the 2019-20 season, while the Colonels fall to 0-4.

The Titans kicked off the day by earning points in all three doubles matches. At first doubles, Demetrios Triantafel (Indian Head Park, Ill.) and Michael Behrensmeyer (Champaign, Ill.) downed Isaiah Goldsmith (Mattapan, Mass.) and Andrew Barron (Needham, Mass.) by a score of 8-2. Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.) and Joe Morro (Chicago, Ill.) defeated Kevin Meade (Milton, Mass.) and Nicholas Bell (Haverhill, Mass.) by the an 8-4 score at second. The Titans took third doubles by default.

During singles play, the Colonels got on the board, but could not manage to pull out the victory. At first, Curry's Goldsmith beat Justin Piotrowski (Palatine, Ill.) 6-3, 6-3. At second, Dylan Mikaili (Naperville, Ill.) downed Barron, 6-2, 6-0. Behrensmeyer earned the win for the Titans at third over Meade, 6-4, 6-3, but the Colonels edged out one more point as Bell defeated Morro at fourth, 6-4, 6-1. The Titans completed their victory by taking fifth and sixth singles by default.

Following the match, the Colonels' season closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Titans completed one more match, a March 21 win over Illinois College, before their season too was cut short.
