Men's Tennis Claims First Conference Victory, Downs Salve Regina 7-2

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Curry College men's tennis team claimed its first Commonwealth Coast Conference match of the season, topping Salve Regina by a 7-2 final at the Leroy Avenue Courts on Tuesday afternoon. The Colonels improve to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the CCC. The Seahawks fall to 3-5 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

Curry started the match by grabbing a 2-1 advantage in doubles play. The first doubles team of Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) and Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) topped the pair of D.J. Bisaillon (Watertown, Conn.) and Kevin Brocks (Albany, N.Y.), 8-2. Salve Regina captured the second doubles point after Will Masse (Wyoming, R.I.) and Aaron White (Falmouth, Mass.) edged the Colonels team of Ryan Sullivan (Winnetka, Ill.) and Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.), 8-6. The Curry third doubles pair of Ben Higgins (Yarmouth, Maine) and Zach Muller (Methuen, Mass.) won their match over Zach Monahan (Stoughton, Mass.) and Dante Petrosino (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.), 8-3.

The Colonels continued their strong play in singles, winning five of the six points. Roach topped Masse at the number one singles slot, 6-0, 6-2. Sullivan defeat Brocks at the two spot by identical 6-3, 6-3 scores. The Seahawks salvaged the third singles point after Basaillon took down Stento by set scores of 6-3 and 7-5. Hefler won his match at number four, prevailing over White in three sets, 4-6, 6-2 and 6-4. Muller defeated Alessio Ayuninjam (Tiverton, R.I.) 6-3, 6-3 at number five and Higgins closed out singles play with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 victory over Monahan.

Curry will return to the courts on Friday for a 3:30 p.m. match at Endicott. Salve Regina will next play on April 18 when they host Gordon at 4:00 p.m.
