Men's Tennis Topped By Nichols in Conference Play, 7-2

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's tennis team fell by a 7-2 final to conference opponent Nichols College at the Big Nine Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon. The win moves the Bison to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the CCC. The Colonels slip to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

Nichols grabbed the early advantage in doubles play, capturing two of three points. The first doubles team of Aidan Stuart (Orange, Conn.) and Peter Coletti won their match over Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) and Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.), 8-4. The Curry second doubles team of Ryan Sullivan (Winnetka, Ill.) and Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) captured a hard fought 9-7 victory over Suprakrit Boonsoong (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) and Max Karger (Medfield, Mass.). Andrew Gore (Easton, Conn.) and Guilherme Barbosa (Bradenton, Fla.) closed out the doubles portion with an 8-1 victory for the Bison at number three over Zach Muller (Methuen, Mass.) and Ben Higgins (Yarmouth, Maine).

Nichols then went on to win five of the six singles points. Barbosa topped Roach at number one by identical 6-3, 6-3 set scores. Coletti defeated Sullivan at number two 6-4, 6-4. Curry salvaged a point at number three when Stento took down Boonsoong in a three set super tiebreaker. Stento won the first set, 6-1. He then dropped the second set in a tiebreak and then topped his opponent 10-4 in a super tiebreaker in lieu of a final set. Stuart took down Hefler at number four with a 6-4, 6-0 final. Karger defeated Muller 6-1, 6-3 while Dan Sullivan (Burlington, Mass.) closed the match with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Samuel Pitts (Cohasset, Mass.)

Curry returns to the court on Tuesday in a conference road match at Salve Regina at 3:30 p.m. Nichols will next play Tuesday at home against Endicott in a 4:00 p.m. match.
