Men's Tennis Defeated 9-0 by Visiting League Rival Nichols

MILTON, Mass.  – The Curry College men's tennis team fell to Nichols College, 9-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon in Milton. With the win, the Bison are now 11-5 on the season and 3-1 in the CCC. The Colonels fall to 0-7 on the season and 0-3 in the conference.  

Junior captain Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec) and sophomore Joan Castillo (Santo Dominico, Dominican Republic) went to two sets to start the singles match-ups with Castillo coming out on top 6-1 and 6-0. At #2 singles, Valvel Temin (Swampscott, Mass.) got swept by junior Josh Halpern (Seacaucus, N.J.) 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Austin DuBois (Simsbury, Conn.) bested junior Charlie Paltsios (Westford, Mass.) 6-1 and 6-0 in the third pairing. Sophomore Nick Poulack (Amherst, Mass.) fell to senior Cam Lewis (Bolton, Conn.) 6-1, 6-1 at #4 singles. Freshman Andrew Hegarty (East Islip, N.Y.) was defeated by freshman Gage Fox (Brandon, Fla.) in the fifth pairing 6-1 and 6-1. Sophomore Sanchin Panchal (Sommers, Conn.) beat senior Jonathon Schutzman (Bellmore, N.Y.) 6-0, 6-1 to finish off the singles pairings.

The Colonels were also swept in the doubles sets starting with Halpern and DuBois winning 8-1 over Temin and Paltsios, and then Castillo and Lewis won 8-6 over Poulack and Hegarty. Finally Fox and sophomore Dan Roberts (South Windsor, Conn.) bested senior Eric Hellberg (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and senior Joe Berger (Middleboro, Mass.) 8-1.

The Colonels return to conference action as they host Roger Williams University tomorrow at noon. The Bison are scheduled to host Wentworth Institute of Technology Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
