Men's Tennis Falls 7-2 at Johnson & Wales in Non-Conference Action

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  – The Johnson & Wales University men's tennis team opened its 2014 campaign with a 7-2 victory against Curry in a non-conference contest at the Moses Brown courts on Wednesday afternoon.

The Colonels got wins at #1 singles from sophomore captain Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec), 6-3, 6-4 over Andre Barbero (Brielle, N.J.); and at #2 singles from freshman Valvel Temin (Swampscott, Mass.), 7-5, 6-4 over Jason Chavenson.

The Wildcats swept all three doubles matches, including an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles for freshman Nicholas Auffret (Holtsville, N.Y.) and fellow rookie Barbero for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. Auffret also had a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles over senior Lucas Donaway (Foxboro, Mass.) as the Wildcats took four of the six singles matches en route to the 7-2 victory.

With the win Johnson & Wales is now 1-0 while Curry falls to 0-4 on the season.
