Men's Lacrosse Clipped By Wentworth

BOSTON – The Curry College men's lacrosse team lost a 10-8 decision at the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Sweeney Field.

Junior Calvin McKenna (Lake Tapps, Wash.) recorded a hat trick while senior Ben Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) and sophomore Liam Carroll (Brookfield, Conn.) added a pair of scores. Junior Erik Madden (Center Tuftonboro, N.H.) also pitched in with a goal and two assists on the night as Wentworth improved to 3-3 overall.

Freshman Jack Dacey (Guilford, Conn.) led the way with three to pace the Colonels (3-4 overall). Graduate student Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) added two goals and two assists. Sophomore Nick Perfetuo (Norwell, Mass.) and freshman Connor Bryant (Methuen, Mass.) and Albie DiBella (Norwell, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for Curry.

The first half was tight throughout as the two sides traded goals five goals each. The Colonels got out to a 4-1 lead, thanks to a 3-0 run capped off by a tally from Dacey with 5:55 remaining in the opening quarter. Wentworth came back with two straight goals from Carroll and then Dacey finished the opening stanza when he found the back of the net with 50 seconds left on the clock. The goal was assisted by DeLeary as the Colonels held a 5-3 advantage after one.

The Leopards pulled even in the second on two goals by McKenna to even the score at 5-5 heading into the second half.

Wentworth put up another three goals in the third while holding Curry scoreless to pull out in front 8-5. Coakely, Madden, and McKenna each found the back of the net for the home team.

Curry outscored the Leopards 3-2 in the final quarter but would ultimately fall in the 10-8 final. Coakley scored with 12:12 on the clock to put Wentworth up four (9-5). The Colonels came back with two straight one from DeLeary and the other from DiBella to cut the deficit to two. The squads traded the final two markers of the night.

Junior Jack Munroe (Mansfield, Mass.) was credited with the win in the cage, registering 16 saves in 52:29 of game action. Freshman Liam O'Neill (McMurray, Pa.) picked up the loss for Curry, converting six saves against 16 shots.

Curry continues its season-long three-game road trip on Saturday, April 17 at Western New England University. First face-off is set for 1:00 p.m. Wentworth heads to Endicott on Saturday for a contest starting at 1:00 p.m.
