Men's Lacrosse Absorbs a 20-11 Loss at CCC Foe Endicott College

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team dropped a 19-11 conference decision to Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The win moves the Gulls to 7-6 overall and 7-0 in the CCC. The Colonels fall to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in league play.

Curry started the contest by outscoring Endicott by a 4-2 mark in the first quarter. MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) opened the contest with an unassisted tally to get the scoring started and then Dominick Marcella (Hull, Mass.) netted one of his four goals of the game, this one off an assist from Tom Cashin (Boxford, Mass.). Will Jennings (Danvers, Mass.) got the Gulls on the board with a goal at the 4:51 mark of the stanza but was quickly answered by two goals, one apiece from Cashin and Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) to go up 4-1. Endicott tallied one more before the end of the frame, thanks to a goal from Jennings off an assist from Luke Wallahan (Pleasant Hill, Calif.).

The Gulls edged the Colonels in the second quarter scoring column, outscoring the visitors 5-3. Marcella got things started with an unassisted goal. Bryan McManus (Madison, Conn.) pulled Endicott to within two when he found the back of the net off an assist from Chris Reilly (Westwood, Mass.) with 7:45 left in the first half. Marcella continued his strong day on the field with another goal, this time off an assist from Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.). Endicott would then go on a 4-0 run to grab a 7-6 lead but the game was tied up heading into the intermission, thanks to a goal by Newell with 48 seconds left in the first half.

Jack McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) opened the second half scoring for Curry to give them an 8-7 advantage but would be answered with a 7-0 run by the Gulls to grab a 14-8 lead. Urbano halted the run with a goal with 55 seconds left in the quarter but was equaled with a goal by Teddy Hannon (Duxbury, Mass.) with seven seconds to go before the final quarter of action.

Endicott continued its strong play in the final quarter, gaining a 5-2 scoring edge. Jennings and Will Clark (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) got the scoring started to go up 17-9. Marcella finished off his day with a goal off an assist from Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt.) to make the game 17-10 with 10:14 to go in regulation. The Gulls closed the game by outscoring the Colonels 4-1, taking the game by 20-11 final.

Grant Thompson (South Hamilton, Mass.) registered the win in the cage for Endicott. He made eight saves in 45 minutes of action. Shane O'Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.) was credited the loss, making 15 saves in 51:34 of playing time.

Jennings led all players with 11 total points on seven goals and four assists. McManus put up four points on four goals while Clark added a hat trick. Hannon and Wallanan added two goals apiece while Bannon and Colin Frazier (Westport, Conn.) put up single tallies to close the scoring for Endicott.

Marcella posted a team-high four points on four goals. Urbano registered two goals while five others had one tally each for the Colonels.

Curry will next play on Tuesday at home when they welcome in Dean for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference contest. Endicott returns to action on Saturday when they head to Bowdoin for a 1:00 p.m. faceoff.
