Men's Lacrosse Falls to Western New England in Conference Play, 10-4

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team suffered a 10-4 setback to visiting Western New England University on Wednesday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field. With the win, the Golden Bears move to 3-8 overall and 3-0 in the CCC. The Colonels fall to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Western New England opened the contest with two straight goals from the stick of Frank Medlicott (Stanwood, Wash.) both off assists from Keenan Dudeck (Longmeadow, Mass.). Curry responded with two goals of their own before the end of the quarter. With 1:19 left in the stanza, Dakota Sanders (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) found the back of the net for the Colonels to cut the deficit to one off the assist from Nick D'Innocenzo (Medway, Mass.). The home team tied the game up at two with 18 seconds left in the quarter on a tally by Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.) off a pass from Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.).

The Golden Bears would go on to outscore Curry 4-0 in the second quarter. Nicholas Beauchamp (Wilbraham, Mass.) opened the quarter with a goal off an assist from Dudeck at the 12:13 mark. Just over a minute later Western New England struck again with a tally by Jared Ward (Littleton, Mass.). Chris Stone and Medlicott capped the run with a goal apiece to help the visitors carry a 6-2 lead into the intermission.

The Colonels got on the board first in half number two with a goal by Wade Prajer (Southbury, Conn.) with 12:39 remaining in the third. The Golden Bears answered back with a goal of their own before the end of the stanza on a goal scored by Nick Gamba (East Islip, N.Y.).

Western New England went on to outscore Curry 4-1 in the final quarter of play to take the game by a 10-4 final. Medlicott recorded his fourth point of the afternoon with his fourth goal of the contest. Just two seconds later, Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.) tallied the final goal of the contest for Curry at the 10:06 mark.

The Golden Bears closed the contest with two straight goals, one from Gamba and the other from Michael Wood (Southborough, Mass.).

Steven Kerr (Hopkinton, Mass.) was credited with the win in the cage, making 15 saves in 60 minutes. Shane O'Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.) picked up the loss. He made 15 saves in 60 minutes of action.

Medlicott paced Western New England with four points on four goals. Dudeck finished with three assists for three points while Gamba and Ward had two points each while four other Golden Bear student-athletes recorded one point apiece. Hunter Cocks (Walden, N.Y.) paced the visitors with five ground balls.

Curry was led by four players who registered one goal apiece. Serra, Sanders, Newell and Prajer each scored one to close the scoring for the home squad.

Curry returns to action on Saturday when they welcome in Wentworth for a 3:00 p.m. faceoff. Western New England hosts Endicott on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in a conference contest.
