Men’s Lacrosse Tripped Up at Castleton, 12-8

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team fell to non-conference opponent Castleton University, 12-8 on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Stadium. The loss drops the Colonels to 2-1 overall while the Spartans improve to 1-1 overall.

Castleton got the scoring started early, tallying four straight goals, two of which came from the stick of Jason Sedell (Pine Brook, N.J.). Curry was able to get on the board with 3:01 left in the first when Jack McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) finished off the feed from Tom Cashin (Boxford, Mass.). The Spartans were able to answer the Colonel goal before the end of the first stanza as Isaac Devoid (St. Albans, Vt.) tallied a goal with just 24 seconds left to give Castleton a four goal advantage.

Curry began the second quarter on a 4-0 run of their own. Cashin opened the scoring for the Colonels off the pass from Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt.) at the 12:14 mark to trim the deficit to three. Just 44 seconds later, McMenomey netted his second goal of the contest to cut it to two and then MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) and Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.) each tallied goals to knot the game at five with 8:20 to go in the half. The Spartans outscored Curry 3-1 over the final 6:33 to carry an 8-6 lead into the half.

Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.) opened the second half scoring to pull the Colonels to within one off the feed from Wade Prajer (Southbury, Conn.). Castleton would answer back to increase their lead to two with 4:57 left in the third on a man up goal by Sam Siegel (Brattleboro, Vt.) off the pass from Nik Rancourt (Brattleboro, Vt.).

Curry's Brandon Flaim (Pembroke, Mass.) recorded a goal to cut the Spartan deficit to one off the feed from Newell with 14:53 left in regulation. Following the goal by Flaim, Castleton tallied three straight goals to take the contest by a 12-8 final.

Brandon Myron (Troy, N.Y.) got the win for the Spartans, making 14 saves on 22 shots faced. Gavin Guarino (Sandwich, Mass.) was credited with the loss for the Colonels while making three saves on 11 shots faced.

Curry returns to the field Tuesday March 14 when they head to Whittier, Calif. for their spring break trip to take on Whittier College at 6:00 p.m eastern time. Castleton will next play Wednesday as they will play St. Lawrence in Plattsburgh, N.Y. at 4:00 p.m.
