Men's Lacrosse Falls 16-9 to Visiting Conference Foe Roger Williams University

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Roger Williams University, 16-9 in the team's final regular season home game. They finish with a 10-6 record on the season and 5-3 in the CCC while the Hawks end at 10-7 overall and 6-2 in the conference.

The Colonels were led by a four-point effort from junior Jack McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) scoring three times and assisting on another goal. He was followed closely by freshman Zach White (Milford, Conn.) who netted a pair and senior Joe Shea (Arlington, Mass.) sophomore Steve Grogan (Sandwich, Mass.) and freshman classmates MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) and Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.) all scored once for Curry.

Junior AJ Core (Syosset, N.Y.) led the way for the Hawks, scoring eight goals. Senior classmates Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.) and Eric Valenti (North Reading, Mass.) as well as junior Max Cammarota (Redding, Conn.) all registered a pair of goals with Siefert adding a pair of assists as well. Sophomore Eddie Hill (Somers, Conn.) and senior PJ McGovern (Garden City, N.Y.) finished out the score sheet, scoring a goal each.

The scoring was opened two and half minutes in with Urbano finding the back of the net unassisted to put Curry up early. McMenomey extended the Colonels' lead almost ten minutes later but Roger Williams answered with four goals, one in the first and three in the second, to take the lead 4-2. Junior classmates Core and Cammarota along with senior classmates Siefert and Valenti all found the back of the net to take the lead for the Hawks.

Curry responded with a run of their own, with Shea and freshman classmates White and Newell all consecutively scoring to tie the game at five going into the half.

Core opened the scoring in the second half but McMenomey equalized the game yet again merely 35 seconds later. Siefert and Hill both put shots in the back of the net to go ahead by a pair. McMenomey cut the deficit to one to enter the fourth quarter with an 8-7 game.

Roger Williams opened the final quarter with five straight goals, three from Core, and one each from Cammarota and McGovern to extend their lead to 13-7. Grogan and White sandwiched goals with Valenti scoring once for the Hawks to make the game 14-9. Core recorded two more goals to send the 16-9 score final.

Junior Shane O'Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.) was handed the loss saving 12 shots to finalize his record at 8-6. Freshman Weston Nolan (Falmouth, Maine) earned the win in his seven-save performance in his first win on the season.

Curry won 29 ground balls to Roger Williams' 26, won 21 of the 29 face offs and successfully cleared the ball 16 times in 17 attempts compared to the Hawks who finished with 17 clears on 18 attempts.
