Men's Lacrosse Suffers a 9-4 Loss to Visiting University of New England

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College Men's Lacrosse lost to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent University of New England, 9-4 on Tuesday night at the Walter M. Katz Field. The Colonels fell to 4-9 overall and 1-5 in CCC while the Nor'easters improved to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Freshman Jeffery Yates, senior Ronald Jensen, sophomore Brandon Flaim and sophomore Dominick Marcella led the Colonels offensively by each recording a goal for the Colonels.  

Sophomore Keston Beauregard led the Nor'easters, recording a goal and two assist. Sophomore David Rubenstein recorded two goals while junior Sam Cloutier recorded a goal and an assist for the Nor'easters.

University of New England was first to get on the board at 10:11 on a goal from an unassisted goal from Cloutier. Curry tied the game at 3:01 from an unassisted goal from Flaim. University of New England would take the 2-1 lead on a man-up goal from sophomore Dan Auger assisted from Cloutier. University of New England scored two more goals in the final minute from sophomore Andrew Curo and senior Shamus Higginbottom to take a 4-1 lead after the first quarter. 

The Colonels would cut the lead to 4-2 a minute into the second half off an unassisted goal from Flaim. University of New England scored two man-up goals from freshman Tom Luttrell at 9:18 and Beauregard with 8:00 minutes remaining in the half to give the Nor'easters a 6-2 lead. With 3:18 remaining in the half, Jensen netted a goal assisted from freshman Matt Serra. 25 seconds remaining in the half, Yates netted a goal to bring Curry within two at the half. University of New England led Curry 6-4 after the half.  

Less then two minutes into the half, the Nor'easters would score their eight goal of the game from an unassisted goal from sophomore David Rubenstein. With 5:00 minutes remaining in the third period, senior Steven Hughes scored to give the Nor'easters 8-4 lead heading into the final period.

Rubenstein scored at the 13:03 mark for University of New England to start the final period. That was the only goal of the period and gave the Nor'easters the 9-4 victory in CCC action.  

Curry and University of New England each recorded 39 shots while Curry held a groundball advantage, 36-25. The Colonels went 12-17 on face-offs and 18-22 on clears. The Nor'easters was successful on 19 of 23 clears and won 5 out of the 17 face-offs.

Curry's senior goaltender Daniel Martin made 19 saves while allowing nine goals in the game. University of New England junior goaltender John Dusel turned away 12 shots and allowed four goals in the first half. Sophomore goaltender David Pearson came into the game in the second half and recorded seven saves and posting a shutout.

The Colonels are next in action Saturday when they travel to Salve Regina with a start time of 3:00 pm. The Nor'easters will be in action next Saturday when they face Roger Williams University at home starting at 1:00 pm.
