Arnold Scores Game-Winner in Overtime to Lift Men's Lacrosse Past Husson, 7-6

MILTON, Mass. – Sophomore Connor Arnold (Clifton Park, N.Y.) scored the game-winner with just 1:09 left in overtime to help lead Curry College to a 7-6 overtime win against Husson University, in men's lacrosse action on Thursday in Milton, Mass.  The Colonels improve to 3-0 overall, while the Eagles fell to 2-2 overall.

Curry came out strong to start the game scoring three goals to take an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter.  The Colonels had three different scorers on the run.  Senior Russell Lanham (Silver Spring, Md.) was the first to get on the board for his team, freshman John Castellano (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Arnold had the next two.  Husson scored the last two to cut Curry’s lead to just one.  Junior Chris Pelletier (Rome, Maine) scored both goals for his team.  His second with just 36 seconds remaining.

Husson scored the next two goals to start the second quarter to take over the lead.  Pelletier earned his third of the game and senior Ben Landry (Lewiston, Maine) scored his first.  Freshman James Newman (New Canaan, Conn.) scored with five seconds left in the half to even the game heading into the break.  Castellano and senior Sean Gallagher (Topsfield, Mass.) chipped in with assists for the Colonels and senior Nick Brown (York, Pa.) and sophomore Ben Potter (Chula Vista, Calif.) each had one for the Eagles. 

Gallager scored the first goal for Curry to start the third but Husson went on to score two more to once again take over the lead at 6-5.  Landry and freshman Nolan Brown (Waterford, Conn.) were netted the goals for the Eagles.

Curry’s senior netminder, Michael Hibbard (Chelmsford, Mass.) played solid between the pipes in the final quarter, holding Husson scoreless.  It wasn’t until the 2:26 mark that the Colonels were able to tie the game and send the teams into overtime.  Lanham had the goal off an assist by Castallano.

For Curry, Castellano had three assists, Gallagher and senior Kirk Dillon (Newburyport, Mass.) each had one.  Husson got two assists from Nick Brown and one each from Potter and junior Alex Ryan (Northfield, N.H.).
 
The Eagles outshot the Colonels 50-37 and also scooped up 39 ground balls to Curry’s 36. 
 
Hibbard made 21 saves for Curry for his third win of the season. Senior John Hooper (Wakefield, Maine) made 15 saves for the Eagles in the loss.
 
Curry will host Anna Maria College on Saturday, March 10 at 12:00 pm. Husson will host Mass Maritime Sunday, March 11 for a 12:00 pm start.
