Men's Lacrosse Falls to CCC Opponent Nichols College, 9-5

MILTON, Mass.- The Curry College men’s lacrosse team fell to Nichols College, 9-5 on Saturday afternoon in Milton, Mass.  With the loss, the Colonels evened their overall record at 6-6 and fell to 0-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.  The Bison improved to 5-7 overall and 3-4 in the CCC.

Just one goal was scored in the first period over 15 minutes of play.  Nichols junior Marc Miller (Trumbull, Conn.) received a pass right in front of the net from sophomore Liam Sullivan (Mashpee, Mass.).  The Bison took 18 shots in the period with just eight landing on net.  Senior netminder Michael Hibbard (Chelmsford, Mass.) came up with seven saves.  Curry took just six shots with only two on net.  Nichol’s senior goalkeeper Scott Gray (Annapolis, Md.) made both saves.

Shots were even in the second frame with both teams taking 12.  The Bison however tallied four more goals and Curry just two to head into the break with a 5-2 lead.  Nichols netted the first three of the period off tallies by junior Macauley Gillis (Northborough, Mass.) and sophomores Brian Girard (Norwood, Mass.) and Zac Smith (Wilbraham, Mass.).  The Colonels got goals from senior Russell Lanham (Silver Spring, Md.) and junior Joseph Natale (Haverhill, Mass.). 

Nichols held a 30-18 advantage in shots in the first half and won 6 of 9 face-offs.
The third period saw just two goals scored.  One from each team.  Curry was first to get on the board at the 8:06 mark when freshman Ronald Jensen (Zionsville, Ind) rolled the crease for an unassisted goal.  Nichols tally came from Gillis who received a pass from junior Steve Delahanty (Auburn, N.H.). 

The Colonels put up their fourth point on the day just 1:24 into the final period.  Natale netted his third on the day off a pass from Jensen.  Natales’ final goal came at the end of the game with just 1:10 to play.  The Bison posted three more with Miller chipping in with two and freshman Michael Bane (North Grafton, Mass.) scoring his first.

atale led the team with three points on three goals. Breton, Carey, Lanham and Jensen both finished with two points on a goal and an assist.  

Miller led the Bison in scoring with three goals, but Gillis led the team in points tallying two goals and chipping in with three assists.  Smith finished with two goals and an assist, Girard had one goal and one assist, Bane scored one goal and Sullivan had one assist.

ichols outshot Curry 52-35 in the game and came up with 11 of 16 face-offs. 

Hibbard finished with 17 saves for Curry in the loss. Gray made 14 stops in net for Nichols for the win.

The Colonels will host Salve Regina University on Tuesday, April 17 for a 7:00 p.m. game time. Nichols will host Anna Maria on April 16 for a 7:00 p.m. start.
