MLAX Notches Second Win of the Season with a 6-5 Victory over UMass Boston
MILTON, Mass. – Curry College scored three fourth –quarter goals, then held off visiting UMass Boston, notching a 6-5 win in men’s lacrosse action Saturday afternoon in Milton.  The Colonels improved to 2-0 while the Beacon start the season 0-1.

UMass Boston took a 2-1 lead after a tight first quarter.  Sean Gallagher got the host on the board first with a goal at 10:46 of the opening frame.  The Beacons countered with goals from Dale Nunn and Pat Driscoll.  Paul Marchese goal at 11:23 of the second quarter knotted the game at 2-2 heading into halftime. 

The Beacons retook the lead, 4-3, after three quarters, but the Colonels tallied the first three goals of the fourth quarter, including a goal from Russell Lanham at 3:09 which proved to be the game winner.  Al Craven pulled UMass Boston to within one with just under two minutes remaining in the game.  Curry was able to keep the Beacons at bay over the last 1:46 to preserve the win.

Curry was led by Evan Hammersley with two goals and one assist.  He was followed by Marchese (2g, 1a) and Lanham (1g, 2a).  UMass Boston was paced by John Canty (1g, 2a) and Aaron Pollack (1g, 2a).  Gordon Holmes made 20 saves to record the win for Curry.  Jake Gostanian turned aside 20 shots in absorbing the loss.

The Colonels resume action next Wednesday March 10, hosting M.I.T. in a 4pm contest.  The Beacons next face Franklin Pierce Saturday March 13 at 1:00pm.
