More Major Awards For Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey

The New England Hockey Writers Association announced today that three men's and two women's ice hockey players earned 2024-25 New England Division II-III All-Star status for their outstanding play throughout the season.

In addition to being named an All-Star, All-American, and Sid Watson Player of the Year, goaltender Shane Soderwall has earned the title of NEHWA Men's Ice Hockey Division III Most Valuable Player. Soderwall's fellow All-American Eelis Laaksonen and sophomore defender Ryan Prewitt join him as NEHWA All-Stars.

On the women's side, standout skaters Danielle Reid and Grayson Goolgasian were named 2024-25 New England Division III Women's All-Stars. The seniors were the top two players on the team in goals and assists, leading them to their second straight conference finals appearance.

In addition to the player awards, Peter Roundy was named Division II-III Men's Coach of the Year for leading men's ice hockey to arguably the most outstanding season in Curry College history.

The awards reception will be on Tuesday, April 22nd, at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. The event will include not only the New England Writers' honorees but will also serve to present the Joe Concannon Award to Soderwall, given by the Gridiron Club of Boston, to the top American-born hockey player in New England. The awards presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. The cost of the reception is $45 per person. Anyone interested in attending the event should contact Joe Bertagna at j2b2hockey@gmail.com.
