Pawtucket, RI - The Curry Men's Hockey team continued their winning ways on Friday, defeating Johnson & Wales 3-1, giving the Colonels their 14th straight win. The win moves the Colonels to 22-3-0 on the season, and 16-2-0 in CNE play. The Wildcats are now 9-14-2 and 4-12-2. The Colonels have now won six straight games against the Wildcats, and move to 28-11-2 all-time.
With their 14th win in a row, the Colonels have now set a new program record for longest winning streak in the modern era (since 1995). The previous long was a 13 game streak during the 2003-04 season. The program record for consecutive wins is 24, set by the 1987-88 team.
The game began with a feeling out process, with neither team scoring over the first 15 minutes. But the Colonels would break through with a Ryan Prewitt goal. Prewitt would do it again early in the second period, scoring his fourth goal of the season. Nolan McDonough would score his 10th goal of the season at the midway point of the second, giving Curry a 3-0 lead. The Wildcats would get one goal back in the third, but the Colonels would hold on for the 3-1 victory.
Shane Soderwall picked up the win in net, making 21 saves. It was his 21st win on the season, breaking a tie with Reid Cooper (2022-23) and David Griffin (1987-88) for most wins in a single season in program history.
Up Next - As the regular season champions, the Colonels have earned themselves a bye in the first round of the CNE playoffs. Their next game will come next Saturday, March 1st, when they host a semifinal.
