Canton, MA - The Curry Men's Hockey team defeated the Western New England Bears on Saturday 4-2, sweeping the weekend series. The Colonels are now 5-1-0 on the season, and 3-1-0 in CNE play, while WNE is 1-4-0 and 0-4-0.

The scoring started early, as the Colonels jumped ahead 1-0 just under four minutes into the game when Max Lundgren scored on a weird angle shot from the goal line that found it's way past the goalie. It was his first career goal.

It would then stay that way until late in the second period. With just over a minute remaining in the period, Eelis Laaksonen attempted a pass, but it was deflected, and then knocked away by the goalie. But the loose puck went right to Laaksonen, and he fired a shot into the net for his third goal of the season. Less than 30 seconds later Grady Friedman got in on the party, skating around a couple of defenders before putting one in the net to put the Colonels up 3-0. It was his third goal of the season.

Laaksonen would then add onto the lead again in the third, receiving a pass at mid ice, and then skating it in, and sneaking a shot by the goalie. Things would start to get messy towards the end, as the Golden Bears would score during some four on four play, and then on a power play, both in the final two minutes of the game.

The Colonels completely dominated possession, outshooting the Golden Bears 55-16. The 55 shots is tied for the 5th most shots in a game by the Colonels since 2013. Shane Soderwall would stop 14 of the 16 shots he faced, only allowing goals on a breakaway and power play.

Up Next - The Colonels will continue CNE play next weekend, beginning with a home game against Nichols on Friday at 7pm.
