Men’s Ice Hockey Sweeps CCC Weekly Awards

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Two Curry College men's ice hockey student-athletes earned weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference, announced on Monday afternoon.

Junior forward Eelis Laaksonen (Espoo, Finland) earned his first CCC Player of the Week Award of the season after enjoying a four-point weekend in Curry's two wins over the number eight-ranked University of New England. Laaksonen had one assist in the Colonels' 3-2 win over UNE on Friday and had one goal and two assists in the team's 4-2 victory over the Nor'Easters the following day.

Men's ice hockey goalie Shane Soderwall (Algonquin, Ill.) earned his fourth CCC Goaltender of the Week award and third Rookie of the Week award. The freshman earned two wins over a ranked opponent, making 34 saves in Friday's 3-2 win over UNE and 27 saves in the 4-2 victory on Saturday. Soderwall's record improves to 9-2-0 on the season with a GAA of 1.448 and a save percentage of .947.

The Curry College men's ice hockey team next plays a two-game series against Salve Regina, starting with a road game on Friday, February 2nd, before returning home for the "Hockey Fights Cancer Game" on Saturday, February 3rd.
