MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The #13 Curry College men's ice hockey team downed Salve Regina University 1-0 Saturday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the St. George's School Rink.
With the win, Curry improves to 11-2-0 overall on the season and 7-2-0 in the CCC.
Neither team found the back of the net in the first 40 minutes, as Curry netminder Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Saskatchewan) and Salve Regina's Anthony Del Tufo held strong between the pipes for their respective teams. The Seahawks outshot the Colonels 19-16 in the first two periods.
The only goal of the contest came 2:45 into the third period when senior Nick Favaro (Vaughan, Ontario) hopped on a rebound and beat Del Tufo from in close. The lone assist on the tally came from freshman Taurin Haddon-Harris (Boca Raton, Fla.).
Salve had multiple golden scoring chances in the waning minutes, but Cooper refused to allow a goal to close out the shutout. Junior alternate captain George Vonakis (Abingdon, Md.) made a clutch diving block to seal the deal with four seconds remaining.
Cooper was named the first star of the game with a 34-save effort.
Curry will return to the ice on Friday evening with a road trip to Nichols College. Puck drop from Levy Rink is slated for 5:40 p.m.
