#13 Men's Ice Hockey Takes Down Anna Maria in Overtime

CANTON, Mass. - Senior Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) scored 3:03 into overtime as the 13th-ranked Curry College men's ice hockey team knocked off Anna Maria College 5-4 in non-conference play Friday evening at the Canton Ice House.

With the victory, the Colonels improve to 10-2-0 overall on the season.

A high-scoring opening 20 minutes saw five goals, and it was the visiting Amcats that took a 3-2 lead into the locker room. Sophomore Makem Demers (Wilbraham, Mass.) opened the scoring for the Colonels just 2:06 into the contest with his first collegiate goal, but the Amcats responded with three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead. With just over three minutes left in the frame, freshman Gage Dill (Estero, Fla.) cut the deficit to one with a power play goal.

The only goal of the second period came off the stick of Curry rookie defenseman Matt Connor (Nottingham, N.H.), who tied the score with an even-strength marker assisted by Demers and classmate Taurin Haddon-Harris (Boca Raton, Fla.).

Early in the third, Curry claimed the lead when senior Austin Whelan (Richmond Hill, Ontario) scored his first goal of the season, with an assist credited to Ben Biester (Danville, Calif.).

Anna Maria tied the score and forced overtime when Brandon Della Paoler pulled off a Michigan, scooping the puck over the shoulder of Curry netminder Roland Polasek (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) from behind the net and knotting the contest up at 4-4 with 5:25 to play.

Curry outshot Anna Maria 5-1 in the overtime session, and Kent made the most of the fifth shot. After an Anna Maria attacking zone pass went to the neutral zone, Kent jumped on the loose puck, walked it to the slot, and fired a wrist shot over the blocker of Anna Maria's goaltender to end the game.

Polasek earned his first win of the season in net for the Colonels, turning aside 21 shots.

Curry will return to Commonwealth Coast Conference play with an 8 p.m. puck drop Saturday evening at Salve Regina University.
