Colonels Sweep Weekend Series With Wentworth
Curry College Men’s Ice Hockey defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Wentworth 5-1 Saturday evening at the Canton Ice House.
CANTON, Mass. - Curry College Men's Ice Hockey defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Wentworth 5-1 Saturday evening at the Canton Ice House.
With the win, Curry improves to 3-0 overall this season and 2-0 in the CCC.
The Colonels quickly found the back of the net in the conference matchup as freshman forward Gage Dill (Estero, Fla.) capitalized on a power-play, delivering a shot past freshman netminder Jack McGovern, granting Curry the 1-0 lead 6:07 into the matchup. Curry's Nick Favaro (Vaughan, Ontario) and Matt Connor (Nottingham, N.H.) were credited with the assists on the opening goal.
Just over ten minutes later, Curry College senior forward Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) flashed down the right wing and buried a shot to push the Colonels to a 2-0 lead. George Vonakis (Abingdon, Md.) and Nick Favaro were chalked up with the assists.
The Wentworth Leopards netted their sole goal of the contest midway through the second period, capitalizing on a 5-3 power-play to bury a shot past Curry's graduate goaltender Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Saskatchewan).
Curry College senior forward Austan Bellefeuille (Framingham, Mass.) tallied the third goal for the Colonels 5:33 into the final period of play, assisted by Tyler Drummond (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Nolan Dawson (Calgary, Alberta). The fourth Colonel goal came under four minutes later, Kevin Pitts (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) solidifying Curry's lead on home ice.
Curry would mark one final goal in the waning moments of the final period at the Canton Ice House. Freshman forward Killian Rowlee (Fulton, N.Y.) capped off the definitive conference victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards with just 19 seconds left on the clock.
Curry's graduate netminder Reid Cooper turned aside 21 of the 22 shots he faced in the Commonwealth Coast Conference victory at home.
Next up for the Colonels, they continue CCC action on Friday night as they host the UNE Nor'Easters at the Canton Ice House at 7 PM.
