Colonels Take Down Rams in CCC Quarterfinals, 2-1

CANTON, Mass. - The fourth-seeded Curry College Men's Ice Hockey Team defeated fifth-seeded Suffolk University 2-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinals at the Canton Ice House Saturday evening. 

With the win, the Colonels improve to 16-8-2 overall and advance to the CCC Semifinals on March 2nd. 

The visiting Rams opened up scoring in the conference playoff bout. Rams junior forward Devin Lowe found the back of the net putting his side up 1-0 with over ten minutes remaining in the first period. 

The Colonels tied up the contest late in the second period with a goal from junior forward Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) following a faceoff to the right of Rams goaltender Cal Wilcox. Curry junior Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia) was credited with the assist on the equalizer.

Curry grabbed the lead late in the third quarter when senior defenseman Alexander Bouchard (Winnipeg, Man.) blasted a shot past the right shoulder of Suffolk's Wilcox. Mike Pellegrini (Markham, Ont.) and Austin Whelan (Richmond, Hill Ont.) were credited with assists on the game-winning goal. 

Curry's Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Sask.) tallied 14 saves in the win.

Suffolks Cal Wilcox marked 45 saves while allowing two goals in the loss. 

The Colonels get back out on the ice for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals on March 2nd.
