Men's Ice Hockey Holds Off Wentworth

EVERETT, Mass. - The Curry College men's ice hockey team got the best of the Wentworth Institute of Technology by a final score of 3-2 Friday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Allied Veterans Memorial Rink.

With the win, Curry improves to 14-8-2 overall on the season and 12-7-1 in CCC play.

The Colonels wasted no time getting on the board, as junior Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) potted an unassisted marker just 3:39 into the contest. Kent swiped a puck from a Wentworth defender before scoring the game's first goal.

Midway through the frame, Curry stretched its lead to two when senior Mike Pellegrini (Markham, Ontario) capped off a slick passing play for his third goal of the season. Daniel Eruzione (Winthrop, Mass.) and Tyler Lindstrom (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) each earned assists on the marker.

On the power play just under three and a half minutes later, senior blueliner Kalle Sundell (Helsinki, Finland) one-timed a shot under the arm of the Wentworth netminder to extend Curry's lead, with assists credited to Kent and Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia), giving the visitors a 3-0 lead after one period.

Wentworth got one back on a tip-in midway through the second, and made things interesting with an unassisted tally midway through the third, but the Colonels held strong in the waning minutes to close out the win.

Between the pipes, Curry goaltender Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Saskatchewan) earned his 11th win of the season by making 17 saves.

Curry will close out the regular season with Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the Canton Ice House. Puck drop between the Colonels and Western New England University is scheduled for 3 p.m.
