Selanne's Last-Minute Tally Lifts Men's Ice Hockey to Thrilling Win over Suffolk

CANTON, Mass. - The Curry College men's ice hockey team earned a thrilling 4-3 win over Suffolk University in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday night at the Canton Ice House.

With the win, Curry moves to 5-0-1 overall on the season and 3-0-1 in the CCC.

Trailing 3-2 with 37.7 seconds left in regulation and the goalie pulled, Suffolk pulled even on a goal from Devin Lowe. The junior hopped on a loose puck in a scrum in front of Curry's Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Sask.) and put it home on assists from Billy Roche and Alex Kolowrat.

The tied score lasted just 8.8 seconds, as Eetu Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.) banked home a shot off a Suffolk defenseman with 28.9 to send the Ice House into delirium. Curry's Nicholas Favaro (Vaughan, Ontario) and Michael Snow (West Roxbury, Mass.) earned assists on the dramatic final-minute game-winner.

Before the final-minute dramatics, Curry opened the scoring 5:46 into the contest on a goal from junior Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.), but the lead was short-lived as Griffin Clark scored just 1:08 later to even the score. Kent's second of the period at the 10:31 of the first made the score 2-1 after one period.

Suffolk netted the only goal of the second on the first collegiate goal for Troy Ladka.

Curry took the lead with 11:52 remaining in the third on Favaro's first of the season. Snow and senior Nick Magill-Diaz (Clawson, Mich.) were credited with assists on the goal that set up the final-minute flurry.

Cooper got the win between the pipes with 18 saves to stay unbeaten on the year. Cal Wilcox made 43 saves in a tough-luck loss.

Curry will be back in action on Friday night at Nichols for more CCC action. Puck drop is slated for 7:40 p.m.
