Colonels Glide Past Golden Bears in CCC Action

CANTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's hockey team remains unbeaten after a matchup against Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Western New England at home Saturday evening.

With the win, Curry improves to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the CCC continuing their unbeaten streak this season.

The Colonels opened up the scoring midway through the first period with a goal by Austin Whelan (Richmond Hill, Ont.), his first on this young season. Arty Kopass (Riga, Latvia) was credited with the assist. Curry furthered their lead with just under three minutes left of the first 20 with a power-play goal by Timmy Kent assisted by Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Eetu Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.).

Western New England got on the board quickly in the second period as senior forward Lliam Christiano found the back of the net on an unassisted try. The Golden Bears now only trail by one.

Curry looks to extend their lead following the goal from the Golden Bears and do so seven minutes later with a goal from Michael Snow (West Roxbury, Mass.) assisted by Alexander Bouchard (Winnipeg, Man.) and George Vonakis (Abingdon, Md.). The Colonels capitalize on another power-play opportunity just over a minute later as Curry's Eelis Laaksonen (Oulu, Finland) adds one to the count with an assist from Kalle Sundell (Helsinki, Finland) and Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.). The scoring doesn't stop there for the Colonels in the second period as Curry forward Tarek Paranica sneaks past the Golden Bear netminder assisted by Austin Whelan (Richmond Hill, Ont.) bringing the score to 5-1.

The third period would go scoreless, concluding the contest at 5-1 in favor of the Colonels.

Curry's Roland Polasek (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) turned in a solid performance on the night recording 19 saves in the win.

The Colonels head back out on the ice Friday looking to stay undefeated as they make the short trip down the road to face CCC opponent Suffolk University. Puck drop is set for 7 PM.
