Colonels Contain Western New England in CCC Opener

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Curry College men's hockey team was victorious over Western New England in their conference opener on the road Friday evening.

With the win, Curry holds their unbeaten streak and heads back home now 3-0 overall.

The Golden Bears opened up scoring quickly in the contest with a Damien Dangueuger score just 36 seconds in. The netting by Dangueuger assisted by Sam Mitchell would hold as the Golden Bears' only score of the contest. The Colonels evened the score with just under two minutes left in the first period. Senior Alex Ochterbeck (Plano, Texas) opened up scoring for the Colonels with an unassisted equalizer sending the contest into the first intermission 1-1.

Curry took the lead late in the second period with a goal by junior forward Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) assisted by Eetu Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.). The Colonels would stretch their lead to 3-1 midway through the third with a goal by Eelis Laaksonen (Oulu, Finland) assisted by Alexander Bouchard (Winnipeg, Man.) and Michael Snow (West Roxbury, Mass.).

Curry's Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Saskatchewan) turned in a strong road performance for the Colonels recording 20 saves on 21 shots faced.

Curry will look to continue this unbeaten streak Saturday evening as they turn around and host Western New England at home at the Canton Ice House. Puck drop is slated for 7 PM.
