Hockey Claims 4-2 Victory at Suffolk University

BOSTON, Mass. --  Senior Jordan Reed (Ajax, Ont.) and sophomore Sean Nelson (Brighton, Mich.) each netted a pair of goals to lead Curry to a 4-2 ECAC Northeast men's ice hockey over Suffolk Monday afternoon at Steriti Rink.

Reed staked the visiting Colonels (11-9-2, 4-6-1 ECAC Northeast) to an early lead with a goal just 1:28 into the contest, and his power play marker with 7:19 remaining in the opening stanza extended that margin to 2-0.  Sophomore Stanton Turner (San Francisco, Calif.) sliced the host Rams' (10-10-1, 4-5-1 ECAC Northeast) deficit in half with an unassisted tally that came with 2:46 to play in the middle period, and that score held up until the final minute of action when Nelson collected a pair of empty-net goals, including the eventual game-winner with 53 seconds remaining and an insurance marker with seven seconds to play, that iced Curry's second triumph over Suffolk in three days.

Junior Shane Harrington (Mansfield, Mass.) added a pair of assists in the win for the Colonels, who also received single helpers off the sticks of senior Chris Mason (Monrovia, Calif.), sophomores James Murphy (Malden, Mass.) and Dan McGinnis (Hanover, Mass.) as well as freshman Ryan Fitzgerald (Cary, N.C.).  Freshman Anthony Galloway (Washington, Mich.) made things interesting in the closing minute for the Rams by netting his first collegiate goal on assists from senior Richard Woodworth (Carlisle, Mass.) and junior Zack Capozza (Spotsylvania, Va.) 21 seconds after Nelson's first empty-netter, but the was as close as the hosts would come.

Senior Derek Mohney (Amherst, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for Curry with a 28-save effort, including 14 stops in the second period alone, while junior Brandon Smolarek (Chesterfield, Mich.) made 23 saves in the setback for Suffolk.  The Rams outshot the Colonels by a 30-27 margin for the afternoon, as Curry killed off six Suffolk power play chances over the final 40 minutes of play.

Suffolk heads to Marlboro, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Becker in an ECAC Northeast outing that faces off at 8:00 p.m., while Curry travels back into Boston on Wednesday evening to square off with Wentworth in an ECAC Northeast match-up that faces off at 8:15 p.m. (Game Recap Courtesy of Suffolk University)
