MILTON, Mass. - Milton Youth Hockey's Learn to Skate Program celebrated its 50th birthday on Sunday, November 30, 2014. The Curry College Hockey Team and coaching staff participated, helping teach the youths the basics of skating. The Milton Youth Hockey Learn to Skate Program is directed by Bob Sweeney and provides close to 200 young Milton residents the opportunity learn to skate every Sunday morning. The program has been in operation since 1965.

"The youngsters in Milton Youth Hockey's Learn to Skate Program have benefitted tremendously from the help and skating instruction provided by the players on the Curry College Hockey Team," said Sweeney. "I am grateful to Coach TJ Manastersky who was a key in developing and promoting this valuable community partnership. The Learn to Skate Program turned a half-century old last Sunday and it was our smoothest and best start ever. Awesome job Curry."

"It has been our pleasure to help Bob and the Milton community through volunteering our time on Sunday mornings," said Manastersky. "Our players enjoy the experience very much. It is a great opportunity to give back and remember what it was like as young guys learning the game of hockey. We find it gratifying to spend time with some of the kids who come to our games and support Curry hockey."

"Having the opportunity to work with Milton Youth Hockey is a great experience," said Colonels' Team Captain Braeden Ruud. "Bob Sweeney and the volunteers that we worked with were all very enthusiastic about making the youth in Milton better skaters. Learn to Skate is a great program and we are all very excited to be a part of it going forward."
