Hockey Battles ECAC Northeast Rival Wentworth to a 1-1 Overtime Tie

MILTON, Mass.- In an ECAC Northeast conference match-up in men's ice hockey action on Saturday evening at the Max Ulin Rink, Curry College tied Wentworth, 1-1 in overtime.  With the tie, the Colonels move to 3-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference.  The Leopards are now 4-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference.

Shots were even at 9-9 in the opening period but it was Curry who would get on the board first to take an early lead.  Wentworth's freshman Chris Sattler (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was called for cross-checking just 50 seconds into the game.  The Colonels were able to take advantage of the man-up advantage with 15 seconds remaining in the power play.  Sophomore James Murphy (Malden, Mass.) received the puck wide open in front of the net and one-timed it past junior goaltender Joel Miller (Calgary, Alta.).  Senior Jordan Reed (Ajax, Ontario) and junior Brian White (Santa Ana, Calif.) were credited with the assist.  The Leopards struggled to tie the score over the next 18 minutes leaving Curry to maintain the 1-0 lead.

Wentworth outshot Curry 33-12 over 36:35 minutes of play before netting the game-tying goal.  Solid play between the pipes from sophomore netminder Brett Sinclair (St. Catharines, Ontario) held the Leopards scoreless until 3:25 left in regulation.  Wentworth fired off 18 shots in the third frame alone but the Colonels defense was strong and Sinclair on point.  Tough pressure however by the Leopards offense resulted in the late tally.  Junior Adam Frank (Clarkston, Mich.) took a slap shot outside the corner of the crease that sailed over the glove of Sinclair.  Frank was assisted by juniors Stephen McManus (Westwood, Mass.) and Mike Cox (Marlborough, Mass.).

Wentworth controlled most of the overtime period landing three shots on net while Curry got off one. Despite the five minute battle neither team could finish for the game-winning goal and the contest ended in the 1-1 tie.

Curry went 1-2 on power plays while Wentworth was 1-2.  The Leopards finished with a game-high 45 shots and the Colonels 22.

Curry's Sinclair made an impressive 44 saves in net.  Miller came up with 21 stops in goal for Wentworth.

Curry's next game is away at UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m.  Wentworth is next in action on Saturday, November 29 when they travel to Bowdoin in a 4:00 p.m. game start.
