Hockey Downs Visiting Becker College on Senior Night, 4-1

MILTON, Mass. - In an ECAC Northeast match-up in men's ice hockey on Saturday night in Milton, Mass., Curry College defeated Becker College, 4-1. With the win, the Colonels improve to 9-13-2 on the season and 5-8 in the ECAC Northeast conference. The Hawks fell to 2-18-3 overall and 1-9-3 in the conference.

The first period saw no scoring. Becker had the slight advantage in shots, 15-13.

The Colonels opened the scoring at 10:23 of the second frame on a goal by senior Brad Devereaux (Duxbury, Mass.). He was assisted by junior Chris Mason (Monrovia, Calif.).  Curry then took advantage of a man-up situation after a Becker penalty to net their second of the game.  Junior Jordan Reed (Ajax, Ontario) netted one just over six minutes later on what proved to be the game-winning goal.  Freshmen Mike Apreda (Newmarket, Ontario) and James Murphy (Malden, Mass.) were credited with the assists.

In the final stanza, the Hawks got on the board at 8:39 to cut the Colonels lead.  The tally came off the stick of freshman Thomas Nourie (Morgan Hill, Calif.) with assists from junior Cody Edwards (Kansas City, Mo.) and freshman Edward Osowski (Monclair, N.J.).  Just four minutes later though Curry scored again to extend the lead back to two.  Freshman Sean Nelson (Brighton, Mich.) took a slap shot that sailed over the Hawks sophomore goaltender Gregg Hussey (Medford, Mass.).   Sophomore Brandon Gilmore (Quincy, Mass.) and freshman Tyler Vankleef (Dundas, Ontario) earned the assists.  Becker had some strong chances in the remaining minutes but solid play by Curry's junior netminder Derek Mohney (Amherst, N.Y.) held the Hawks to just one.  Becker pulled Hussey with just over two minutes to play in hopes that an extra man would get them on the board but an open-net tally by Apreda sealed the victory for the Colonels.

Currys' Mohney turned aside 43 shots for the win. Hussey made 35 total saves for Becker in the loss.

Curry will be back in conference action on Tuesday night as they travel to Johnson & Wales beginning at 7:00 p.m. Becker will host ECAC Northeast foe Western New England on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. game start.
