MILTON, Mass. - In an ECAC Northeast match-up in men's ice hockey on Saturday evening in Milton, Mass., Curry College defeated Suffolk University, 4-1. With the win, the Colonels improve to 6-9-2 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The Rams fall to 5-10-1 on the season and 2-3-1 in the conference.

Suffolk opened the scoring at 8:09 of the opening frame on a goal by junior Tim Sprague (Plymouth, Mass.). He was assisted by sophomore Tyler Murray (Houston, Texas) and junior Richard Woodworth (Carlisle, Mass.).

That was the lone score for the visiting Rams as Curry went on to score four unanswered goals. The Colonels netted a pair of goals just over one minute apart to complete the first-period scoring. The first came at 10:24 off the stick of freshman Joe Scarfo (Winthrop, Mass.) from classmate Dan McGinnis (Hanover, Mass.). That was followed at 11:25 by a power-play goal by junior Chris Mason (Monrovia, Calif.). Sophomores Shane Harrington (Mansfield, Mass.) and Brandon Gilmore (Quincy, Mass.) assisted on what proved to be the game-winning goal.

After a scoreless second period, Curry tacked on two more goals over the final 20 minutes. Just 53 seconds into the frame, Gilmore found the back of the net on the power play with help from sophomore Dominic Puntillo (Amherst, N.Y.). Freshman Tyler Vankleef (Dundas, Ontario) would later close out the scoring at 18:46. Sophomores Brian White (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Frankie Posillico (Massapequa, N.Y.) had the assists on Vankleef's goal.

Colonels' junior Derek Mohney (Amherst, N.Y.) turned aside 21 shots in improving his record to 5-5-1. Sophomore Brandon Smolarek (Chesterfield, Mich.) made 34 total saves for the Rams, including 17 in the third period. His record dropped to 4-7-1.
