Colonels Drop Contest to Seahawks, 91-62, in Tournament Finale
MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's basketball team wrapped up a three-game week with a 91–62 home loss to Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon at Katz Gymnasium. Despite several strong individual performances and a solid shooting effort from beyond the arc, the Colonels were unable to keep pace with a Seahawks offense that shot nearly 54 percent from the field and 40 percent from three.
Curry's offense found early rhythm behind the play of Jeremiah Predin and Manny Hidalgo, but Salve Regina's perimeter attack quickly took control. The Seahawks knocked down seven first-half threes and used a 14–4 run late in the frame to build a 42–26 halftime lead. Though the Colonels fought to keep the margin manageable, turnovers and second-chance points tilted momentum in favor of the visitors.
The second half saw Curry's offense come alive, posting 36 points and hitting five threes, yet Salve Regina continually answered with scoring bursts of its own. Guards Jack McMullen (20 points) and Sean Seymour (21 points) powered the Seahawks' efficient backcourt performance, combining for 10 made threes and consistently generating clean looks off ball movement.
Predin delivered the best effort of the afternoon for Curry, finishing with 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting, adding six rebounds and an assist. Hidalgo contributed 15 points, four rebounds, and two assists, continuing his strong early-season play. Isaiah Andino chipped in six points, five rebounds, and a team-high four assists, while Favour Okeke added six points on a pair of made threes.
Curry showed improvement from long range, shooting 39 percent from three, and was perfect from the free-throw line at 5-for-5. However, the Colonels struggled to slow Salve Regina in transition and on ball screens, allowing the Seahawks to shoot over 50 percent in both halves. The visitors also forced 20 turnovers, converting several into points at the other end.
Despite the loss, the Colonels will return to action on Wednesday, set to face the Hawks of Roger Williams in the second game of a doubleheader with the women's team.
